Designated Survivor season 3 is coming on Netflix next month, and when it arrives, the series would probably be taking advantage of the streaming platform. Some shows aired on regular television networks often comes with a restriction, which means some things shouldn't be said or done.
When the third installment of the series premieres on the streaming giant, viewers can expect a few changes, especially with the language. According to a report from TVLine, Designated Survivor season 3 will have more swearing compared to the second season.
Some think that this is reasonable, largely because the show tackles some real-life politics, so swearing is usually normal. It's hard to avoid not to say such words when caught up in the situation. However, this could also be a risky move for Netflix, particularly when telling the story.
The first two seasons of the series were said to be family-friendly and used a certain style and tone to make it appropriate in a TV network. So, adding strong languages means the show is at risk as it could receive more criticisms along the way. And even though some viewers wouldn't be bothered with the strong languages, others might be sensitive and find it offensive.
There were some stories that proved to be fine despite the strong language. For instance, Julie Chen was swearing on Big Brother: Over the Top, but the program tend to be fine. Also, Suits becomes a little bit liberal in with some if its languages compared to when they started. Hence, Designated Survivor season 3 would probably be fine as well.
No matter what the language is, the important thing here is the strength of the story, especially in getting more adult viewers hooked in the show. One of the crucial things about Designated Survivor season 3 is that it should find a way to capture the audience by telling what it's like being a President. It should also include the burdens that come in term of governing, as well as trying to run an adequate political campaign.
Meanwhile, Tom Kirkman (played by Kiefer Sutherland) has been through so much already and running for the office might be new territory for him. In the third installment, he has to contend with something new, and he's never done before - an election. He never planned to become the President of the United States, until a tragedy happened. But now, he'll try to seek a full term position to make changes as the leader of the free world.
Designated Survivor season 3 will premiere on Netflix on June 7.
