The season finale of the hit American sitcom, The Big Bang Theory, aired on May 16.

Viewers sat and watched what would be the final episode of the beloved series. This is because it was announced earlier that Season 12 would be the final season of one of the most viewed and followed American shows aired on television.

But with such great ratings and an impressive record of 52 Emmy nominations and ten wins, fans and enthusiasts are wondering why the cast will not be back for another season.

It was said that there had been some talk of filming Season 13 earlier last year. However, one member of the cast decided to walk away from the show after his contracted ended.

Jim Parsons, who plays the witty and geeky Sheldon Cooper, has been rumored to be the reason behind the sudden halt of the comedy. He claims it was the first time in his 12 years of shooting the series that he had felt like he did not want to go on any further to film a next season.

However, he opens up that there was no one negative factor or new project prospects that influenced and urged him to arrive at his decision of leaving the show. The 46-year-old actor says he was getting to a certain age where he felt like he was completely different from who he was when he started out on the show 12 years ago.

He added that, when he started finding it hard to learn and memorize lines of Sheldon's, he reflected on how there was no specific reason for it, just that it became difficult for him to play the personality. And that he felt like he had changed a lot from playing Sheldon, concluding that it was the right time to say goodbye.

Parsons asserts that there is no drama surrounding his decision. The choice of not continuing to film and play Sheldon was made purely out of intuition and following his gut. A pretty good source of judgment in this industry, it is considered.

Chuck Lorre, the series creator, pondered on the possibility of replacing Sheldon's actor. Thinking back to when he previously found himself in the same situation with the comedy series Two and A Half Men, where Charlie Sheen had been fired and replaced with Ashton Kutcher. The show did fine after the replacement but was never the same until it came to an end in 2015.

And after giving much thought to it, Lorre had decided against recasting one of the main characters of the show, saying he would not want to go on without the chemistry of the initial ensemble. So he did exactly that and proceeded in letting the show come to a glorious end.
