Read At Your Own Risk: This article contains spoilers for New Amsterdam.
Months before the pilot season finale, NBC already announced that New Amsterdam would be renewed for a new season. Thanks to its strong and growing fanbase, the series has shown the network a good reason to continue the course.
If based on numbers alone, the series has already proven its worth to NBC. A consistent of almost 12 million viewership per episode on delayed viewing within one week is a very impressive rate for a newcomer series. And as it happens, New Amsterdam bags this kind of viewership every week. Hence, there is no reason at all for NBC to cancel the show.
Although everyone is now enjoying the good news, updates and details are yet to be shared from the production and the network. As it appears, no further comments have been made ever since the renewal announcement. So when the finale concluded a few days ago, the whole fandom became so much eager for the new season of the show.
The final episode of New Amsterdam Season 1 ended with a huge cliffhanger. And it looks like several lives were at stake when an accidental crash happened at the end, including Dr. Max.
But of course, the plot follows the life of Max. So, it is quite unlikely that he will be killed. Even so, the executive producer of the show, Peter Horton, revealed in an interview with New York Post that someone would certainly die in the first episode of the second season.
He also went on to further share the things that will probably happen to Max in the following episodes. As it appears, Max will continue to battle his cancer in ways that no one imagined. Hence, there is a huge chance that his case will be worse in the next installment, or it could also change his perspective in life as he gets healed. But whatever the case, Peter Horton ensures that the fans are in for a treat.
So far, these are the only details given about the next season of New Amsterdam. And since the pilot season finale just recently aired, there will surely new updates and reports in the following months.
Also, there are speculations that the upcoming season will arrive on NBC come September of 2020 with episodes that are possibly written by Ryan Eggold himself, who plays the role of Dr. Max.
