Now that Game of Thrones Season 8 comes to completion, fans are now more eager to see how George R.R. Martin will end the novel series. Fans have been long waiting for the release of the sixth book, The Winds of Winter. And although the famed author has yet to start penning the last novel, A Dream of Spring, which will complete the A Song of Ice and Fire series, bookworms and viewers alike want to know if it will have an ending different or similar to the show.

In an interview with 60 Minutes, George R.R. Martin said. Game of Thrones Season 8 might not be the show's final season if the creators David Benioff and D.B. Weiss followed his story. He added the show "would have to run for another five seasons" if it wanted to remain faithful to the tale he created for The Winds of Winter and A Dream of Spring.

However, George R.R. Martin admitted Game of Thrones Season 8 seemed to be "very close" to the A Song of Ice and Fire ending after "several days of story conferences" at his home in Santa Fe, New Mexico. "I don't think Dan and Dave's ending is gonna be that different from my ending because of the conversations we did have," he explained.

But, George R.R. Martin cleared there might be differences on certain secondary characters between Game of Thrones Season 8 and A Song of Ice and Fire. He added there was no way David Benioff and D.B. Weiss could get in all the details and all the minor and secondary characters in the show.

George R.R. Martin even foresees fans will fight online about which ending is better. David  Benioff and D.B. Weiss have worked on their own to tell Game of Thrones Season 8 story as it already outpaced his writing.

"I've been so slow with these books," George R.R. Martin told Rolling Stone about penning The Winds of Winter and A Dream of Spring. Although the major points of the A Song of Ice and Fire ending would be the same things he told David Benioff and D.B. Weiss "five or six years ago," there might be some changes, and there would be a lot of storylines added.

Game of Thrones Season 8 had "important discrepancies" from the upcoming The Winds of Winter and A Dream of Spring. So if fans feel a little upset that he takes a long while to finish the A Song of Ice and Fire novel series, he also feels the same way to himself.
