Fans will continuously see more of Westeros despite Game of Thrones Season 8's ending. HBO has five different ideas for a prequel or a spinoff, and the network is now developing a new series with a working title Bloodmoon.

The Game of Thrones prequel will be set 5,000 years before the War of the Five Kings. So, fans are about to meet new characters that may be the ancestors of the Starks and Lannisters, among others, that they have loved.

However, viewers are about to see a familiar face in the Game of Thrones prequel - the Night King. According to BBC, the new series will explore the fall of the Golden Age of Heroes and its darkest hour.

HBO noted the Game of Thrones prequel would reveal the horrifying secrets of Westeros' history, the White Walkers' origin, the mysteries of the East, and the legend of the Starks. "Only one thing is for sure: it's not the story we think we know," it said.

The Age of Heroes chronicles to the time when the Children of the Forest made a treaty with the First Men about peace. The darkest hour, on the other hand, refers to The Long Night, the title of Battle of Winterfell in Season 8. It is the time when the White Walkers come to Westeros to destroy peace and bring ferocious winter for a long while, which explains the coming of the Night King to the Game of Thrones prequel.

So, who will be in the Game of Thrones prequel? The Telegraph reported HBO chose A-list stars for the new series. The show will be led by the two-time Oscar-nominated actress Naomi Watts.

However, HBO remains mum about Watts' character, but she is said to be playing the role of a "charismatic socialite hiding a dark secret." Fans predict the King Kong star will portray Nissa Nissa, the wife of the ancient hero Azor Ahai, the Lord of Light and the main man of the R'hllor faith.

Azor Ahai is the one who plunged his magical sword, Lightbringer, through the heart of the one he loves to be able to defeat the White Walkers. Aside from being the wife of the Lord of Light, there are also assumptions Watts may play the role of a Lannister as her character description seems to be like to that of Cersei Lannister.

Fans will be once again in a waiting game as the Game of Thrones prequel is set to be out in 2020. HBO president of programming Casey Bloys told Deadline the network wanted the final season of the show to be its last one, so it would take a while before they followed it up with something new.

"I don't want to use it to launch something else, I want it to stand as the finale of the greatest TV show of all time," Bloys said. "I don't want to do anything that infringes on that."
