Now that Game of Thrones Season 8 ended, HBO's new series, Watchmen, is seen to replace the epic fantasy series as the next blockbuster show. But what is it really all about? Is it a prequel, spinoff, or reboot of Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons' classic?

In an interview with showrunner Damon Lindelof, he told Inverse Watchmen is not a prequel, spinoff, or a reboot. It is a "remix."

In a post on Instagram, Lindelof revealed they have no plans to "adapt" Moore and Gibbons' original 1988 comic book series Watchmen. "Those issues are sacred ground and they will not be retread nor recreated nor reproduced nor rebooted," he said. "They will, however, be remixed."

Watchmen will be based on the original comic book series as a general law, but it will fast forward to the current time to tell an original story. Moore and Gibbons' classic 12 issues will be Lindelof and the network's Old Testament. The HBO show will be like the New Testament as they will not change what comes before it.

The original Watchmen focuses on the 1980s problems, like Ronald Reagan, Margaret Thatcher, and Mikhail Gorbachev. The HBO series, on the other hand, will resonate with the issues surrounding Donald Trump, Theresa May, and Vladimir Putin.

Fans will also not witness the world's end, apocalypse-level events, and the heroes and the villains in HBO's Watchmen. The show will be playing a different game in its entirety.

Meanwhile, HBO already dropped the official trailer for Watchmen. Here, the network gave fans the first glimpse to the Penrhyn Castle. It also showed a man who was wearing a mask similar to that of Rorschach.

"We are no one. We are everyone. And we are invisible," the guy who looked like Rorschach said. Later, a group of men, who were wearing the same mask, were revealed. Watchmen is set in an alternate dystopian reality that follows a group of vigilantes, superheroes, and anti-heroes, who will try to save the world.

Daily Post noted the National Trust run castle near Bangor, Gwynedd, would be featured in Watchmen. The show's production was made under the codename "Project Brooklyn" and would be following the 2009 movie adaptation with the same title, directed by Zack Snyder.

HBO has yet to announce Watchmen release date, but it is said to be out in the fall. It may take the Game of Thrones schedule and may also be available on Sky in the UK.
