It has been years since Disney Channel announced the coming of High School Musical 4, but the network remains mum about the show's return. Awaiting fans can't contain their excitement over the Wildcats and West High Knights' comeback, as the anticipation continuously grows bigger. But will viewers see their favorite original characters in the new adaptation?
According to Teen Vogue, Disney Channel announced High School Musical 4 would be a reboot. So, it is unlikely fans would see the likes of Zac Effron, Vanessa Hudgens, and Ashley Tisdale reprising their roles as Troy Bolton, Gabriella Montez, and Sharpay Evans in the show.
However, it looks like Efron wants to do a cameo role for the television film. In an interview with Extra, the 31-year-old star revealed it is "absolutely okay" if he would make an appearance in High School Musical 4.
"I don't see why not," he said. However, Efron explained he is not yet fully committing to appear in High School Musical 4, as he is not even aware there is a series happening. Tisdale, on the other hand, said she is already matured and grown so much to be in the show. "I just don't know if I can give her justice...and be that character again," she said.
High School Musical 4 will bear a new title, High School Musical: The Musical. It will give a fresh new look to the show with an all-new cast. It will be now led by Joshua Bassett as Ricky, Matt Cornett as E.J., and Julia Lester as Ashlyn.
High School Musical 4 will take fans back to the IRL East High. A group of new students will try their luck by auditioning for a school's production. Surely, viewers will once again hear original songs from the franchise with an addition of new music.
Hiptoro reported High School Musical 4 would be a web series that would be launched on Disney's upcoming web streaming service, Disney+. The show would be shot in a "mockumentary-style" where the stars would show their performances on stage.
Disney Channel has yet to announce High School Musical 4 official release date, but it is originally scheduled to be out this year, the same time Disney+ would be out. However, Disney is said to be launching a series of its Marvel adaptation shows, so the new installment for the classic musical television film would possibly be moved to a 2020 release.
