Fans are now wondering if there will be Clink Season 2, as the current season is about to come to an end. Although the series is only about to release its sixth episode, the anticipation for renewal is now growing.
Channel 5 has yet to announce if there will be Clink Season 2. However, despite the mixed reviews, fans believe the show will be renewed for being the first original drama production commissioned for 5Star.
According to Express.co.uk, if there will be Clink Season 2, it may also have 10 episodes like its predecessor. There are also expectations the show's original characters will return to reprise their roles.
Of course, Alicya Eyo is expected to return to Clink Season 2 as Deputy Governor Dominique Darby, along with Lu Cornfield as Joyce Edevan and Katherine Rose Morley as Chloe Anderson. Fans may also see the comeback of Natasha Jonas as Corinne Nelson, Christine Tremarco as Sinead Kovac, and Jane Hazlegrove as Janine Dolan.
Aside from the original characters, there may be new faces coming to Clink Season 2 that will join the inmates. Also, Jane Hazlegrove may not return to the show as she will be joining Coronation Street in a recurring role.
Talking about the show's concept, showrunner Sarah Deane told the publication they are concentration on human stories behind the drama. They are highlighting real issues that are happening in prison and the country.
"Clink is a collection of human stories; it's not just about a prison," Deane said. Hence, Clink Season 2 may explore the original characters' story when they get freed from prison.
Clink follows the story of female inmates and prison officers inside a fictional correctional. To prepare for the show, Deane revealed the production team talked to real-life prisoners, officers, and a governor to make sure the show would be as "authentic" as possible.
"The show's not soapy, where you're just heightening stuff for the sake of drama," Deane told Daily Star Online. They even tried to tone down the horrifying true stories they had heard as viewers might not believe it's true. Hence, some characters' tales are based on real-life events, just like Amira's (Alexandra D'Sa) tale.
The show also tackles real-life issues like funding cutbacks and staff shortages. If Channel ever greenlights Clink Season 2, it will surely continue exploring this side of the story. The current season airs every Thursday at 9 p.m. on 5Star.
