Game of Thrones Season 8 ended with a possibility of creating a lot of spinoffs. Sansa (Sophie Turner) is now the Queen of the North, Jon Snow (Kit Harington) returns to the Wall, Bran (Isaac Hempstead Wright) is the king of the Six Kingdoms, and Arya (Maisie Williams) heads to the west of Westeros to explore the unknown. As the youngest woman of the Stark's journey is yet to come to an end, is it possible that fans will see a prequel to her story?
Before the Stark kids bid their goodbye to each other, Arya told Jon she had no plan to return to Winterfell. All of the maps end with Westeros, so the Hero of Winterfell will be exploring "what is west of Westeros."
Fans last saw Arya embarking on a new journey on a "Stark-ified" boat as she sails off to her new adventure. Will it be possible to see the continuation of Arya's journey in a new Game of Thrones prequel?
"Nope, nope, nope. No," HBO's programming president Casey Bloys shut down the idea, via Gizmodo. "I do want this show - this Game of Thrones, Dan and David's show - to be its own thing."
Bloys explained he didn't want to put the characters created by David Benioff and D.B. Weiss for Game of Thrones in another story that would be handled by somebody else. He wanted to leave the artistic work that they made alone, so he avoids to create the same show over.
George R.R. Martin has created a massive world that HBO could delve into to create a Game of Thrones prequel. Hence, Bloys revealed they are trying to do a new series that feels distinct and not redoing the same show. So, there will be no Arya spinoff.
Bloys told Deadline he understands where the Arya Game of Thrones prequel comes from. "I totally get it," he admitted. He continued to say they want to be very careful not to overdo or destroy the original series' story by taking advantage of its fame.
Weiss and Benioff's show managed to stand on its own in eight seasons, thus Bloys wanted to leave it as "its own work of art" and not create shows directly from it - Arya for that matter. So, they would be exploring the other worlds Martin created for Game of Thrones prequel and "let it stand on its own."
