Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Season 7 is already in the works, although Season 6 just began. There are reports the renewal comes as a surprise with the show's low ratings and fans' critical response, but it is said to be the possible series finale.
"That's the word I've heard," Clark Gregg, who plays Phil Coulson's role, told Den of Geek about Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Season 7. "The announcement I read was, two more seasons, six and seven."
As Season 6 is now on air and Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Season 7 is now in production, it can be the final season of the series. However, Gregg revealed he "really" didn't know much about the upcoming new installment, so fans should take his statement with a grain of salt.
He then added he is excited for viewers to see Season 6 and can't wait for them to witness what will happen. "People who have been on the journey with me and with Phil Coulson are going to get something very, very different," Gregg teased.
If Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Season 7 will be the end, Gregg reveals he will gladly return to do any Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) movies. "I feel so grateful for the journey that I've had, that I'm hesitant to ask for anything," he said. So when he receives a call from Marvel, he will surely say yes and feel grateful for what he has done.
Gregg's character as Coulson has been part of the MCU since it started with Iron Man in 2008, per ScreenRant. He then appeared in several Marvel movies as the S.H.I.E.L.D. agent before he got killed by Loki (Tom Hiddleston) in The Avengers.
But, Marvel TV resurrected Coulson to lead the spinoff television series, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., in 2013. Here, he had been a team of agents' director until he met his demise in the Season 5 Finale, where it was revealed that his death could not be prevented.
In Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Season 6, the team grieves for Coulson; May (Ming-Na Wen) spent his final days with him, while Mack (Henry Simmon) was named as the new group's director. However, there is someone who exactly looks like Coulson, also plays by Gregg, but not him.
Fans can expect there will be a lot of goings-on in Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Season 6. As Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.Season 7 will surely come and there are assumptions it will be the end, viewers have to wait for ABC's official announcement about it.
