Fans will be seeing more of Nathan Fillion-led series as ABC renewed The Rookie for a second season. The network confirmed the renewal status of the series earlier this month, which makes a lot of viewers happy especially since season 1 becomes a hit, despite its freshman run.
The renewal announcement was made as the ratings of the first season have been quite strong for the show. The Rookie reportedly has averaged a 1.4 demo rating and about 4.2 million total weekly viewers, and the series ranked fifth out of the nine dramas of ABC in both measures.
The series has also been one of the strong gainers of the network when DVR playback is being factored in. Also, considering the season 1 finale, many would have probably been upset if there will be no The Rookie season 2. But while the renewal status is certain, the release date of the second season remains unpredicted.
The series debuted in October 2018, Fillion plays the role of the main character John Nolan; he is the oldest rookie in the LAPD. He left his small town and moved to Los Angeles as he wanted to pursue his career of becoming a police officer. Since he is the oldest rookie, he's surrounded by rookies who are about a decade younger than him.
Along the way, he's met with skepticisms from some higher officers who only see him as a walking midlife crisis. To prove himself, he needs to use his experiences in life, determination, and sense of humor to gain respect from his colleagues.
Other cast members of The Rookie include Melissa O'Neil (as Lucy Chen), Eric Winter (Tim Bradford), Afton Williamson (Talia Bishop), Richard T Jones (Wade Grey), Alyssa Diaz (Angela Lopez), Mercedes Mason (Zoe Andersen), and Titus Makin (Jackson West).
In another report, since The Rookie season 2 is happening, other ABC shows upcoming lineup has been stabilized as well. Some of the popular shows coming back on the network include A Million Little Things, The Good Doctor, Station 19, Grey's Anatomy, and How To Get Away With A Murder.
The bad news is that both For The People and The Fix have been officially canceled. When it comes to the network's reality front, The Bachelor and Dancing With The Stars were both given a green light. In terms of the comedy front, Bless This Mess, American Housewife, Fresh Off The Boat, and Single Parents are officially returning on ABC.
