A new report has just confirmed that a film based on the video game Star Wars: Disney and Lucasfilm are developing Knights of the Old Republic. In addition to that, the project has already found a screenwriter and could be the next film after Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker.
It has certainly been an exciting week for Star Wars fans. There are exciting new photos from Star Wars Episode IX that offer a glimpse at the Knights of Ren and the first image of Luke Skywalker in the film has finally been revealed. However, that's not the only thing that people are happy about. It has just been revealed that the planned Knights of the Old Republic movie has found someone to work on the screenplay.
It has been reported that Laeta Kalogridis is currently working on the script for the KOTOR film. Kalogridis is known for her work on Avatar and Shutter Island, so this is certainly welcome news. However, Disney has not yet confirmed when the new Star Wars movie will begin production.
Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy has previously stated that there are plans to pursue a KOTOR movie, admitting that it is something that is always being discussed. "Yes, we are developing something to look at. Right now I have no idea where things might fall," Kennedy said. Luckily, it looks like they have found the perfect writer for the screenplay.
Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic takes place thousands of years before the rise of the Galactic Empire but still features the fight between the Jedi and the Sith. One of the game's most memorable characters is Darth Revan, a former Jedi who leaves the Order to join the Dark Side. Not surprisingly, people are already hoping that the Sith Lord will be the main focus in the planned film.
But who could play Darth Revan in the KOTOR movie? Fans have been campaigning for John Wick: Chapter 3 - Parabellum star Keanu Reeves to take on the role of the Sith Lord. However, it has yet to be confirmed if Reeves has been approached for the role.
So what are the chances that the Knights of the Old Republic film will be the next big project after Star Wars Episode IX? It's too early to tell for now. After all, Game of Thrones executive producers David Benioff and D.B. Weiss already have a trilogy in place, and the first movie is already scheduled for release in December 2022. Perhaps the KOTOR film could get a later release date in 2023.
