A royal expert believes that there is a feud going on between Meghan Markle and Kate Middleton. Angela Mollard thinks that the royal sisters-in-law are competing for media attention.
Speaking in the "Royals" podcast, Mollard said that she feels the Duchess of Sussex and the Duchess of Cambridge are too conscious of their social media presence based on the likes and follows they receive. She also singled out Meghan because of her background as a former Hollywood star.
"Her industry has required competitiveness," Mollard said. "But, employing it in a social media context with a family who is renowned for majesty, they are regal, the appeal of the royals is as much distance as it is closeness, it's important that they judge that correctly."
Rumors that the two royal wives were feuding sparked earlier this year. The talks died down, however, after Meghan and Kate were seen being chummy together during a royal event just before the Duchess of Sussex prepared for the birth of her first-born, Archie Harrison.
On May 19, House Sussex posted a photo montage take on their wedding day to celebrate their first year anniversary. The next day, House Cambridge also posted a video of the whole family as they presented their garden for the Chelsea flower show.
According to another royal expert, Kate and Prince William didn't want to be overshadowed by Meghan and Prince Harry, especially with Meghan's background as an actress who knows how to package herself and use her star power. Camilla Tomliney told This Morning that she could see this competitiveness becoming a problem moving forward.
As it is, the princes' father, Prince Charles, is already feeling overshadowed by his two boys on one end and Queen Elizabeth on the other end. The families of his two boys, on the other hand, are competing to stay relevant and not be sidelined.
Further complicating the situation is the separation of the offices of House Sussex and House Cambridge. Apparently, the royal staff from these houses hold meetings together to ensure that their schedules for their royal functions still jive.
Sources, however, say that the households aren't aware of what the royal couples are doing. Thus, their publicities in the media also overlap.
"The result is that they can both be promoting important causes at the same time. This is something that the Royal Family has always tried to ensure never happened," the royal expert said.
