The release date of The Winds of Winter is still considered as one of the most popular mysteries today since George R.R. Martin has kept mum about the tome's details for years. Though many followers got disappointed with its countless delay, the anticipation for the sixth A Song of Ice and Fire book series remains high. However, most recent reports suggested that TWOW could be delayed further.

In 2017, George R.R. Martin made a prediction that The Winds of Winter could arrive in "late 2018 or early 2019," which sparked hope among fans who have been patiently waiting for the book. However, it did not happen since the 70-year-old author has been very busy doing other projects and traveling from one country to another. As a matter of fact, he has been involved in writing the scripts for the upcoming five prequels of the Game of Thrones series.

In May, George R.R. Martin has set a working deadline for The Winds of Winter. The veteran author vowed to finish the sixth installment of the A Song of Ice and Fire book series before August 2020. The brain behind the successful Game of Thrones series has been trying to finish writing the much-awaited novel since 2011. But, latest reports have it that it might be delayed again.

Delay reports sparked anew after it was revealed that George R.R. Martin was tapped to become the Chief World Builder for Meow Wolf. For starters, the Meow Wolf is an entertainment company that intends to carry the audience to fantastic realms. The Winds of Winter writer revealed that the company piqued his interest after he helped it secured a building that is set to be converted into a so-called House of Eternal Return in Santa Fe, New Mexico.

"They really sparked my interest and their vision pushed all my buttons - a sci-fi world spanning multiple universes - they delivered something we've never seen before," George R.R. Martin explained. "I look forward to continuing to grow the Meow Wolf storyworld for years to come," The Winds of Winter author went on.

Because of this, some fans could not help but speculate that his latest gig might affect his schedule again and cause another delay to The Winds of Winter release. Previously, avid followers of the A Song of Ice and Fire book series have expressed their worry about the possibility of George R.R. Martin not completing the novel due to his advanced age.

Despite this, George R.R. Martin vowed to finish the book the soonest time possible. In fact, he refused to appear in the Game of Thrones Season 8 finale episode to focus on writing sixth A Song of Ice and Fire series.
