Song Joong Ki is, finally, back! The husband of Song Hye Kyo has, officially. returned to the small screens via tvN's Arthdal Chronicles series. This is the comeback project of the 33-year-old Hallyu superstar since he appeared on Descendants of the Sun and Man to Man in 2017.

Set in the fictional land of Arthdal during the ancient times, Arthdal Chronicles focuses on the story Eun Som (Song Joong Ki) who was born half-human and half Neanderthal. Since he is different from the other members of the tribe, the character of Song Hye Kyo's real-life partner would be considered as an outcast and would go through a myriad of hardships and challenges. He would, also, go against Ta Gon (Jang Dong Gun), who dreams of being the first king of the empire.

In the Arthdal Chronicles Episode 1, Sanung and the Saram tribe tried their best to ally with the blue-eyed Neanderthal. However, the group did not succeed and was left to ask for help from Tagon. The character of Jang Dong Gun, then, took command of the great hunt. It is predicted that Song Joong Ki's Eun Som and Tagon would have a bloody encounter in the future because of this conflict.

Villagers were distrustful of Eun Som, especially after Song Joong Ki's character revealed that he had seen some happenings in the future in his dreams. This, then, piqued the interest of Tan Ya (Kim Ji Won), who asked Eun Som about her fate. Tan Ya is the successor of the Wahan Tribe. Arthdal Chronicles Episode 2, also, featured Ta Gon's encounter with his men in an unlikely place.

The return of Song Joong Ki is considered successful as the first episode of the new epic fantasy drama garnered high ratings. Reports have it that Arthdal Chronicles averaged 4.9% up to 6.0% among the network's target viewers. It even nabbed the top spot in its time slot for all cable dramas.

Arthdal Chronicles Episode 3 is expected to feature the journey of Song Joong Ki's character and his friends as they try to protect their tribe from their enemies. Eun Som and Tan Ya are, also, expected to develop a romantic relationship later in the series. With Ta Gon's ambition and exemplary skills, viewers can expect more bloody and gory scenes in the future.

In a press conference held before the Arthdal Chronicles premiered, Song Joong Ki revealed that Song Hye Kyo had been very supported of him as he works on his newest project. "Song Hye Kyo is also a fan of the two writers and the director," the Descendants of the Sun actor unveiled to the press. "This is my first drama in a long time, but she supported me by saying 'Do well by focusing until the end' and so it's thanks to her that I was able to finish it well," Joong Ki added.

Arthdal Chronicles Episode 3 is scheduled to air on Saturday, June 8, while Episode 4 is expected to air on Sunday, June 4, at 9 p.m. KST on tvN. Both episodes would be available for streaming on Netflix at around 10 p.m. Stay tuned to Business Times for the latest news and updates about Song Joong Ki and Song Hye Kyo.
