There will be more of Trish in God Friended Me season 2 as the actress playing the character, Erica Gimpel, has been promoted to series regular. What will this mean for the show when the woman dating the father Miles (played by Brendon Micheal Hall) will be a more permanent presence?
Deadline confirmed that Gimpel had been upped to series regular in God Friended Me season 2. Her character, who owns a music store in the neighborhood in the series, appeared in at least eight episodes in the first season as a love interest for Reverend Arthur Finer (played by Joe Morton).
Presumably, this means that viewers will also get to see more of the development of Arthur's character and storylines in God Friended Me season 2. In the previous season, Arthur quit his post at the church so that by the time the finale rolled, it signaled a new direction for the character.
It's still unclear, however, what the writers intend for Arthur in God Friended Me season 2. But it looks like it's going to be an exciting run for him as he's got plenty of time to pursue his other plans.
God Friended Me season 2, by the way, has started putting together the new stories now that the writers are back in session. As revealed on Hall's Instagram, the scribes have gone back to work to set up principal production in the next month.
CBS granted a renewal for God Friended Me season in early January. Because the show has been a runaway success in the Sunday timeslot with at least 10 million viewers weekly, CBS is keeping it in the schedule for next season, per Entertainment Weekly.
There are so many things to look forward to in God Friended Me season 2. Apart from Joe's new direction, Cara (played by Violett Beane) is also returning next season with a new mindset after having stayed in Paris for the summer.
The upcoming installment will also dig deeper into a new character named Joy (played by Jessica Lu). She was introduced in the final moments of God Friended Me season 1 as someone with the same mission as Miles. She also receives friend suggestions on social media from God.
"We don't know right away where [Joy] is from, and where she lives," Steve Lilien, the executive producer, revealed to TV Line. "Has she come to New York? Does she live here? Those are all the questions we're going to answer right away when we pick back up in Season 2."
God Friended Me season 2 will likely start filming in July. The show is expected to start its new run this fall on CBS.
