Sherlock Holmes (played by Jonny Lee Miller) is slowly catching a break in Elementary season 7. After gaining back some of his freedom in New York, he is now on his way to speak with Capt. Thomas Gregson (played by Aidan Quinn) in the episode airing on CBS on Thursday, June 13.
A preview for Elementary season 7 episode 4 shows Sherlock going to the hospital where Gregson has been confined after getting shot. His shooting was the very reason why Sherlock has returned to New York, where he's wanted by the police.
Joan Watson (played by Lucy Liu) has been sitting by the foot of Gregson's hospital bed when Sherlock arrives. She tells him that she has already talked to the captain, thus suggesting that he is finally out of his coma and on his way to recovery.
The clip, however, does not show what Sherlock and Gregson would be talking about. The assumption, however, is that the two friends could finally bury the hatchet and set aside their differences after what happened in Elementary season 6.
Viewers will recall that Gregson was disappointed over how Sherlock handled the crime of his daughter Hannah (played by Liza J. Bennett) in the previous season. He also found out that Sherlock has been suffering from post-concussion syndrome (PCS) and was temporarily off the police service. Gregson also rejected the replacement for Detective Bell (played by Jon Michael Hill), who was recommended by Sherlock, because he didn't think the replacement would rein Sherlock in.
Meanwhile, Elementary season 7 episode 4 will deal find Sherlock and Watson on the hunt for a new criminal who could be within their inner circle, according to the episode synopsis. The two will also figure out if a recent explosion is connected to a gang-related crime or terrorism.
Incidentally, this episode has been directed by the show's star. Miller has helmed two episodes of Elementary before in the sixth season.
Showrunner Rob Doherty told TV Line that Elementary season 7 would be filled with new threats and problems for the main stars. In a way, this has raised the bar for the show which they initially thought was ending with season 6.
"It was exciting to make big choices for them, the kind of choices that you can't make in a normal season," Doherty said. "Can they all end up in good places? Maybe, maybe not. I hope everyone tunes in to this season to find out."
