The stakes are certainly higher in Billions now that Charles 'Chuck' Rhoades and Robert 'Axe' Axelrod are back to being rivals. In addition to that, Taylor Mason seems determined to use the rivalry against the men. So what can fans expect in Billions Season 5? Lead star Paul Giamatti has offered a hint at what will happen in the next season of the Showtime series.
In the Season 3 finale 'Extreme Sandbox', it became clear that Axe only had one thing in mind: He wants to destroy Taylor's company and have them locked up. Although Axe initially had Chuck to help him deal with Taylor, Chuck eventually realizes that there is no real benefit in working with Axe. So instead of throwing Taylor in jail, he came up with an interesting proposal: He asks Taylor to infiltrate Axe Capital so they can destroy it from the inside.
It's no surprise that Taylor immediately accepted the offer. After all, they have their motivations in this deal. Taylor could easily use each man's obsession with destroying the other and somehow emerge victorious when it is all done. Will Taylor manage to rebuild their company once they get rid of Chuck and Axe in Billions Season 5? That's just one of the possibilities that could happen, but Paul Giamatti also wants to set everyone's expectations straight.
Paul Giamatti pointed out that people seem to believe that the Showtime series is purely fiction, although it somehow reflects what is truly happening in the world today. "There's a weird way in which people can just detach themselves from the way these guys behave and think it's a Super Bowl of billionaires that's being played somewhere that doesn't have any effect on us, but it does," he said. He added that the "billionaires running this country" are currently "out of control" and people are completely complacent about it.
It's certainly an interesting point, but Giamatti also stated that fans wouldn't be seeing too much violence in Billions Season 5. Instead, people can expect the characters to continue engaging in more mental chess. "Nobody's going to get shot, nobody will end up in the trunk of a car dead," he said.
Billions Season 5 has not yet been given an official premiere date and the new season has not yet started production. Nevertheless, the fifth season is expected to air on Showtime by March next year.
