The cameras officially start rolling for the filming of Game of Thrones Prequel in Belfast. HBO returns to Northern Ireland to continue depicting the world of ice and fire after the show's successful eight seasons on the air.

According to Belfast Telegraph, the production started at a distant unrevealed location in Co Down and on the north coast since last week. Filming will also be held in different sites across Belfast that includes the Titanic Studios.

There were earlier reports the production of the Game of Thrones Prequel would begin in the spring. It would then head to Belfast later in the year.

Nothing much is known about the spinoff, but it is said to be set 1,000 years before the original Game of Thrones occurred. It will be led by the Oscar-nominated actress Naomi Watts, along with the Doctor Who star John Simm and the Bafta award-winner Miranda Richardson.

The Game of Thrones Prequel will chronicle the epic fantasy world's history from the golden Age of Heroes into its darkest hour. It will reveal the horrifying secrets of Westeros' story, the true origin of the White Walkers, the mysteries of the east, and the Starks of legend.

The spinoff is about to reveal what fans don't know about George R.R. Martin's A Song of Ice and Fire novel series, on which Game of Thrones is based. As early as now, fans are now casting their predictions on what the show will feature, from the origins of the Night King to the rise of houses, kings of Westeros, and the stories from the east.

Softonic added Martin himself teased on his blog that the Game of Thrones Prequel might also delve into the story of the beginnings of the Targaryen dynasty. The 70-year-old famed author also revealed the show draws some plot details from his other novel, Fire & Blood, which focuses more on the Targaryen rulers like Aegon the Conqueror that goes until the end of the Dance of Dragons.

However, it looks like the Fire & Blood and Game of Thrones Prequel's timelines don't coincide. As the spinoff is reportedly about the First Men's coming to Westeros, it is known to take place long before the Targaryens come to the scene.

But, it may be an interesting sight to see the Targaryens' rise in power the same time the White Walkers begin to take the lands beyond the Wall. HBO has yet to announce when Game of Thrones Prequel will be out, but some assume it will be due for release either in 2020 or 2021.
