After a year, fans will once again see their favorite Sam Gardner (Keir Gilchrist) back to the small screens in Atypical Season 3. Netflix has renewed the show for another season to continue the life story of a teenage boy who is on the autistic spectrum.

The new season will continue following Sam's life, along with other Gardeners who have been protecting him from the very beginning. There is his protective sister, Casey (Brigette Lundy-Paine), his mother, Elsa (Jennifer Jason Leigh), and his dad, Doug (Michael Rapaport).

After Sam's therapist, Julia (Amy Okuda), encouraged him to explore the world, "get out there," and start looking for love, he began growing more independently. Elsa found it hard to let go of her son, as he eventually embarked on a love affair.

Season 2 ended when Sam applied to a university, thanks to Julia's encouragement. Fortunately, he got a spot on Denton University's Scientific Illustration course. So in Atypical Season 3, Sam's new life in the university will be explored.

According to Radio Times, the new season will also continue exploring Casey's story after she got accepted to a private school on an athletic scholarship. The star track athlete is still confused about her romantic feelings for her new school friend Izzie (Fivel Stewart). Casey may either break it up with her boyfriend Evan (Graham Rogers) or pretend her almost-kiss with Izzie never happened.

The previous season's major cliffhanger revealed the two held hand, and Casey ignored Evan's phone call. At the recent the ATX Television Festival, Lundy-Paine talked about the Season 2 finale and what fans could expect in Atypical Season 3.

"We find out what's going to happen almost at the same pace as you," admits Lundy-Paine said, per Deadline. "We get scripts one at a time!"

Lundy-Paine described Casey and Izzie's relationship as a roller coaster ride that is evolving. She even finds it fascinating how their relationship is unraveling on the small screen.

However, Lundy-Paine admitted they still have no idea what would happen to Casey and Izzie in Atypical Season 3. Casey is still figuring what will work and what will look good for herself after growing up with the chaos, and her family is still adjusting to their new world.

Lundy-Paine explained Casey has a bold journey as she becomes a teenager. The feelings she has for Izzie incredibly confuses her. So in the new season, she is about to figure everything out.

Just like any other teenagers today, Lundy-Paine said Casey is also finding herself. Atypical Season 3 is set to be out this fall on Netflix.
