All eyes are now on The Chi Season 3 after the explosive Season 2 finale. After the news emerged that Jason Mitchell got fired due to behavioral issues and Tiffany Boone's exit, their characters as Brandon and Jerrika broke up in the previous season's final episode, "The Scorpion and the Frog."
The Season 2 finale also featured the great LaDonna Tittle, who played the role of Miss Ethel. She was left to fend for herself as Ronnie (Ntare Guma Mbaho Mwine) was busy searching for something that had been missing in his life.
"The Scorpion and the Frog" also revealed Jada (Yolonda Ross) and Darnell's (Rolando Boyce) hookup. But, Brandon came just in time to interrupt the two that led to a much-needed mother-and-son talk, per the Digital Wise.
Fans had been eager to watch the previous season's final episode after news emerged that Mitchell would not return to The Chi Season 3. There were reports Boone made a complaint against the 32-year-old star's bad behavior on set. She was not even the actor's only victim, but there were also others.
Before the controversy happened, Showtime already announced the show's renewal in April. The network might bring in new stars to take Brandon and Jerrika's role, but there is also a possibility that the producers would put their storylines to an end.
Business Times recently reported it is up for the show's creator Lena Waithe and the rest of its writers to explain why Brandon and Jerricka would not be seen in The Chi Season 3. It would be their chance to show their incredible talents by giving justice to their storylines even without the characters.
They may rewrite Brandon and Jerrika's story and bring it in a different direction that fans can understand. So, they may now be thinking of a good possible way to alter their narrative.
The Chi Season 3 may continue the coming-of-age story on a group of people whose lives have been linked by coincidence. They are all bonded by their needs for connection and redemption on the South Side of the city.
"The Chi revels in revealing the beating heart of the South Side of Chicago," Showtime President of Entertainment Gary Levine said in a statement, via Chicago Tribune. "We, like our viewers, have fallen in love with these characters and we remain eager to see where Lena and her fellow artists will take them in season three."
Aside from Mitchell and Boone, other stars like Ross, Mwine, Jacob Latimore (Emmett), Alex Hibbert (Kevin), and Armando Riesco (Det. Armando) are expected to return. Showtime has yet to announce when The Chi Season 3 will be out, but it may due for release in 2020.
