Netflix has yet to reveal if there will be Designated Survivor Season 4, but the hopes are high that Tom Kirkman's (Kiefer Sutherland) presidential story will continue. After the streaming giant saves the show from cancellation, its effort to keep the series alive may not go in vain.
Designated Survivor turned a little like House of Cards when Kirkman had to do some dirty works to win the presidential election. So, will he eventually turn bad to keep his position in the new season?
Netflix has yet to renew the show. The network just dropped its first 10 episodes on the platform on June 7, so it might be too early to see how it would perform.
The show's renewal will be determined by the number of viewers that will binge-watch the series after its release. Netflix has been canceling a few unsuccessful shows since last year. However, it still saves series that have good ratings and large viewership outside of the United States, per Radio Times.
So, the future of Designated Survivor Season 4 remains up in the air until the network sees its following. So, what will happen in the new season?
Kirkman won the election last season, but his winning seemed to compromise his morals. He knew that his rival Cornelius Moss (Geoff Pierson) had nothing to do with the biochemical conspiracy, and he had the evidence to prove it, but he decided to keep the information.
As there are other people on his team that know the truth, Kirkman's position may be at risk in Designated Survivor Season 4. If ever Netflix greenlights the new season, Sutherland is expected to return to reprise his role as the President of the United States.
Also, Digital Spy noted other major roles like Aaron (Adan Canto), Isabel (Elena Tovar), Penny (McKenna Grace), Mars (Anthony Edwards), Sasha (Jamie Clayton), and Dontae (Benjamin Charles Watson) would return. Emily (Italia Ricci) might also comeback after she walked out of the celebration when she learned the unrevealed dark secrets during the presidential campaign.
There are also talks that Leo (Tanner Buchanan) may appear in Designated Survivor Season 4 after his absence in the previous season. After her FBI arrest, Lorraine (Julie White) may also return. Lastly, there are debates if Seth (Kal Penn) will be back in the new installment.
If ever Designated Survivor Season 4 takes shape, it is expected to be out in June 2020. It is the same month that Season 3 was released.
