Yesterday is just about to hit the big screens, but it is now receiving positive reviews. The new Danny Boyle-directed musical is expected to be a summer blockbuster movie due to its feel-good comedy theme.

Starring Mamma Mia! star Lily James and EastEnders actor Himesh Patel, the two will bring viewers to a world where nobody remembers The Beatles. The movie will feature the iconic rock band's classic hits like "Let It Be," "I Want to Hold Your Hand," "Something," "Hey Jude, "And I Love Her," "All You Need is Love," and of course, "Yesterday," per Heart.

Yesterday follows the story of a young man, Jack Malik (Patel), who is a struggling musician. Unfortunately, he gets involves in a car accident, but it will drastically change his life.

When he wakes up, he is the only person in the world who knows The Beatles songs. Of course, as a musician, it works in his favor, and everything is history.

Aside from James and Patel, Yesterday also stars New Girl's actress Lamorne Morris, James Corden, and Ed Sheeran. However, news emerged that Sheeran was not Boyle's first choice for the movie. The 28-year-old singer-songwriter plays as himself who will suggest Jack change "Hey Jude" title to "Hey Dude."

According to CinemaBlend, Sheeran's role was initially meant for Chris Martin. His name was already written in the script as Chris Martin.

But as Christ just finished their band's A Head Full of Dreams world tour, he didn't want to commit to doing another project. So, Boyle chose Sheeran instead to replace the Coldplay vocalist.

"Ed teases us remorselessly about that. That we picked him second," Boyle revealed. "He said 'I think you wanted Harry Styles second and me third.' And that's not true."

Although Sheeran was only the second choice for Yesterday, he seemed to be the best pick among the three. The "Perfect" hitmaker could bring in more audience to the movie.

Sheeran is the only one who has a new song playing on the radio right now. So, his fame can help the film's promotion. It has been four years since Coldplay released new music, while Styles has yet to unveil a new song for two years.

Boyle even described Sheeran as a wonderful actor who was very serious about their rehearsals and eager to learn about the craft of acting. Yesterday is set to be hit the theaters on June 28.
