Just a few days ago, Taylor Swift finally released the second single from her upcoming album, Lover. And it came as a surprise to everyone since You Need To Calm Down is the first track she released that has socio-political undertones in it.
Although this is already revealed previously since Taylor hinted that her new music would have political tones, no one figured out that she will be targeting the issues of the LGBTQ community. Even so, this created a huge commotion in the industry, both in person and on the internet.
The lyrics of You Need To Calm Down foreshadowed a lot of issues that the community has been facing in recent times. And when the music video was dropped, it certainly confirmed that this single aimed to be a Pride anthem.
Releasing the single in the middle of the Pride parade is no coincidence as per InStyle. And it only makes sense. And although most of the Taylor Swift fans are loving what she's currently offering and advocating, others, however, find it "clueless" and a "failed advocacy" according to Vice.
As it happens, many people, especially the ones who are active on the internet, are seeing this second single as a way to profit from the LGBTQ community. This is true, though, as first and foremost, she is an artist. And it is just logical that she would receive profits from her agenda.
But, on the other hand, it has been widely reported as well that You Need To Calm Down and Taylor Swift, herself, have become a huge help in the community.
According to Forbes, all of the celebrities and personalities that are included in the music video are paid in great amounts. And this is a great thing since there are issues as well in terms of salaries and wages when it comes to LGBTQ individuals.
Also, the community contended that Taylor donated a huge amount that helped them in various advocacies. Moreover, the petition to the apparent Equality act is now reaching its goal of having 300,000 signatures due to the campaign that Taylor initiated through her music.
So, Taylor Swift is helping the community. But, it is also worth noting that she's also profiting from it as everyone involved are parading her new music and her upcoming album, Lover. And this is only logical considering all the help that she has been giving, especially to the community.
