It has been almost three years ever since The Missing Season 2 wrapped up its story. And in those years, the fans never stopped wondering if there will be a new season for the popular British anthology drama series.
As of the time being, there are still a few individuals who are hoping for The Missing Season 3's renewal and arrival. But sadly, it has been already confirmed a few months ago that it will no longer happen.
In an interview with Digital Spy, the series creators, Jack and Harry Williams, revealed that they had a lot of realizations when they were preparing for The Missing Season 3.
According to the duo, they had a lot of ideas and storylines that could work the new season. But unfortunately, none of them really "stuck" in the end. This is because it appeared to them as if they are just repeating the plots of the first two seasons. And that is something that they would not like for the show.
The two seasons of The Missing focus on Baptiste's previously unsolved missing persons' cases. And if they would replicate the original premise of the storyline and the series' dynamic, it would appear that Julien Baptiste is a "terrible detective."
With these thoughts at hand, they learned that this is an unfortunate and sad revelation. So, if ever The Missing Season 3 happens, they would need to have an all-new character-based plot. It must be a whole new plot in a whole new world.
While the idea is quite fitting, they went on to think of much fresher ideas which apparently includes the thought of having a prequel to The Missing since they largely want Julien Baptiste to be included in the premise. But as it happened, they ended up working with a whole new series called Baptiste instead of creating The Missing Season 3.
Baptiste is a whole new approach to Julien Baptiste's character. And in the show, it stars the same actor, Tchéky Karyo, but with a new set of environment and characters.
On February of this year, the pilot season of Baptiste premiered on BBC One with a total of six episodes. And a month after, the first season concluded.
As of the moment, there are no new updates about the show's renewal. But the fandom is essentially positive that the network will commission a new season for Baptiste. So, while The Missing Season 3 is actually "missing" the scene, Baptiste is making up for it.
