A recent report claims that Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip gave their grandson Prince William an ultimatum about her relationship with Kate Middleton. Before getting married, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge dated for about a decade and had two major breakups before the Prince finally proposed to Middleton.

Royal correspondent Camilla Tominey claims that Queen Elizabeth and her husband believed that Prince William and Middleton's dating history was "too long." She said the monarch wants her grandson to do the right thing - either to marry or to let go.

Queen Elizabeth reportedly preferred the couple to break up for good back then, rather than marrying each other and getting a divorce later on. But, Tominey added that if Middleton is indeed the one for Prince William, then their five-year courtship was "long enough."

Prince Philip, on the other hand, reportedly told Prince William he shouldn't keep "stringing" along Middleton forever. Reportedly, Prince Charles was also put on the same situation as he was given an ultimatum while he's still dating Princess Diana.

The Prince of Wales was said to be initially "terrified" making a promise and would be "regretting" it. Also, He and Princess Diana usually go on social gatherings together, where they would then see Prince Charles' ex-girlfriend Camilla Parker Bowles together with her husband, Andrew.

Thus, Prince Philip reportedly urged his son to make a quick move and marry Diana before her reputation is ruined. During those times, reports claimed the Princess of Wales became anxious regarding the presence of Camilla in the Prince's life.

So, the Prince of Wales listened to his father to reportedly avoid further controversies. However, his marriage with Princess Diana didn't work out, and he eventually married Camilla in 2005.

Going back to Prince William, he's reportedly scared he would do the same mistake like his father, so he chose to take things show and would not marry immediately. In her book The Making of a Royal Romance, Katie Nicholl wrote the Duke of Cambridge was "reluctant" to be put in the same pressure, and he vowed he wouldn't rush to the altar.

There were rumors in 2004 that Prince William will be proposing to Middleton, but he shut down the rumors saying he has no plans to marry until he's 28 or 30. True enough, he proposed to Middleton when he turned 28, and they got engaged in 2010 and then tied the knot in 2011.
