The second season of The Crown largely focuses on the Suez Crisis and Profumo Affair scandal that caused huge impacts to the monarchy. But while these events have become chaotic and problematic to everyone inside the palace, things started to fall back into place, as seen in the last few moments of the second installment.
There are no huge cliffhangers left for the fans after the finale of The Crown Season 2. However, it has been already revealed that Season 3 will no longer feature the same set of actors in the series.
Quite obviously, the events that will be highlighted on the third course are much closer to the happenings of recent times. Therefore, it is only suitable for the characters to look rightfully according to their age. This is why the actors who will play the main royal roles are the more mature celebrities in the industry.
Claire Foy, who plays the role of Queen Elizabeth II, will be replaced by Olivia Colman. And the actress already confirmed with Harper's Bazaar that she is set to play the Queen's role up to the fourth installment of the web series.
As for Prince Philip, the Duke of Edinburgh, Matt Smith will be superseded by the Outlander and Game of Thrones' actor, Tobias Menzies.
Helena Bonham Carter also confirmed earlier this year that she would take over the role of Princess Margaret from Vanessa Kirby. She also revealed that she is set to play the character up to the fourth season of The Crown.
As for the other new cast members, Radio Times unveiled to the fans that Ben Daniels, Josh O’Connor, Erin Doherty, Emerald Fennell, and Charles Dance will also play royal roles in the upcoming season of the show.
In terms of the plot, it has also been made known that The Crown Season 3 will focus on the Aberfan disaster, Apollo 11 landing, and Harold Wilson's time as the Prime Minister. Along with these historical events, the new and upcoming season will also cover the decolonization of Africa, the investiture of Prince Charles, and the scandalous relationships of Princess Margaret.
It is also worth noting that Camilla Shand and Lady Diana Spencer will also be introduced in the later parts of season 3.
The Crown Season 3 is set to premiere this fall season. But while there is no confirmation yet about the actual date, it has been widely hinted already that it will arrive on Netflix before 2019 ends.
