It looks like no one is ever really gone in the Star Wars Universe. It has already been confirmed that Emperor Sheev Palpatine will return in Star Wars Episode 9, but the villain might not be the only one making a major comeback. The international titles for Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker certainly sounds a lot different than its English title. But does this confirm that Luke Skywalker will be resurrected in December?
The death of Luke Skywalker continues to be one of the most depressing scenes in Star Wars: The Last Jedi. While most fans have accepted that the Jedi Master is dead, some still believe that Luke will play a significant role in The Rise of Skywalker. After all, Mark Hamill is already expected to reprise his role in Star Wars Episode 9. But has one of the international titles for the film revealed that Luke would be brought back to life?
The international titles of Episode 9 certainly sound a lot different when translated. For instance, the Japanese title translates to Dawn of Skywalker while it will be released as Skywalker: The Rise in Greece and Latin America. However, the most interesting title comes from Poland, which has been revealed to be Skywalker Resurrection or Skywalker: Rebirth.
The possible resurrection of Luke Skywalker has been something that people have speculated about for some time now. Some even believe that Luke didn't die in The Last Jedi and will be revealed to still be alive in The Rise of Skywalker. One of the "evidence" that people have pointed to has been a promo image of Luke in Star Wars Episode 9 which shows the Jedi with R2-D2. In the picture, Luke doesn't have the distinctive Force ghost translucency and appears to be standing in front of a fire.
So does this confirm that Luke Skywalker will be resurrected in The Rise of Skywalker? Mark Hamill may have confirmed that he will be playing a Force Ghost in Star Wars Episode 9. When Hamill was asked why he was so eager for the Skywalker Saga to conclude, the Knightfall star had a straightforward response.
"I had closure in the last one," he said. "The fact that I'm involved in any capacity is only because of that peculiar aspect of the Star Wars mythology where if you're a Jedi, you get to come back and make a curtain call as a Force Ghost."
Will Luke Skywalker get resurrected or could he simply appear as a Force Ghost? Find out when Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker hits theaters on December 20.
