Queen Elizabeth was once publicly humiliated by a United States President, according to unearthed reports. In one of her visits a few decades ago, Her Majesty has been involved in an "awkward" podium gaffe.
In May 1991, Queen Elizabeth was reportedly humiliated by the former US President George H.W. Bush during a welcome speech held at the White House. The Queen was accompanied by her husband, Prince Philip that time, and the 41st President of the US took the podium first to introduce the monarch.
The late former US President left the stand after his speech, meaning when Her Majesty stepped up to talk, the microphones were too high, which made her face hidden. The purple-and-white hat of the Queen can be seen above the mic while the 5-foot-4 monarch was standing there while delivering her speech.
This incident was reportedly a public humiliation for Her Majesty, and it even made headlines around the world. In one particular headline, The Washington Post wrote: "Britain's Hat of State." But despite that, Queen Elizabeth seemed fine with it and didn't mind at all, and in fact, she even joked about it a few days later.
During the joint meeting of Congress, the monarch said she hopes the people would see her for where they are. Her remarks drew laughter, and lawmakers reportedly applauded her. Former President Bush, on the other hand, expressed his regret and said it was not fair to Her Majesty.
When asked why he didn't pull out the step of the lectern for the monarch, he replied that he felt bad he didn't. He said it wasn't fair for her and he's sorry that it was overlooked, and then he said his chief of protocol was the culprit.
Meanwhile, Bush isn't the only US President that reportedly humiliated Queen Elizabeth. The current president of the US, Donald Trump, reportedly pushed the royal protocol's boundaries in front of the monarch on several occasions.
A royal historian claims that Trump made an action that can be considered a "moral insult." In his Twitter, Ian Beck said the US President turned his back on Her Majesty, and then he started walking in front of her while inspecting the guards at Windsor Castle. This action is reportedly a "major faux pas" in terms of royal etiquette.
Also, Trump reportedly breached protocol as he revealed what the monarch told him regarding Brexit during his interview with Good Morning Britain. The heads of state don't usually share their private conversation with the Queen.
