Life in Pieces Season 4 ended with two back-to-back episodes that officially closed the three generations of the Short family's story. CBS canceled the show after four seasons, so there may be no Life in Pieces Season 5 unless another network or streaming service pickups the show.

According to CarterMatt, the show has a solid, stable audience, but CBS already canceled the series earlier this year. Although the network didn't reveal the reason behind the cancellation, it is said to be about ratings.

Life in Pieces Season 7 only averages 0.7 ratings in the 18-49 demographic, 35 percent lower than that of the previous season. The publication noted it might be because CBS didn't include the show on its fall schedule and had fewer episodes. The current season only had 13 episodes compared to its predecessors that had 22 chapters.

The show was once part of the CBS's best comedy lineup until Life in Pieces Season 4 was moved to the late spring schedule. Hence, many believed its time would be over.

CBS's move came as a surprise to everyone. Life in Pieces was the only one of its few single-camera comedies. It was also an excellent companion to Young Sheldon now that The Big Bang Theory already ended.

If Life in Pieces Season 4 only had 22 episodes, it might have an opportunity for potential syndication at the end of the series or a possible Life in Pieces Season 5. It is probable CBS didn't see a syndicated market for the show or might be because it is hailed from 20th Century Fox TV that it didn't get much money from it compared to its other television series.

Meanwhile, at the end of Life in Pieces Season 4, Greg (Colin Hanks) tried to steal Matt's (Thomas Sadoski) thunder in a family trip to the Bahamas. Heather (Betsy Brandt) and Tim (Dan Bakkedahl), on the other hand, were thinking of having another child.

"Requests for free babysitting from matriarch Joan [Dianne Wiest] test the limits of unconditional love," executive producer Justin Adler told TV Insider.  Being away from Colleen (Angelique Cabral) and Lucas (Vivaan Bisio) also tested Matt (Thomas Sadoski). "Just as he finally has a family, a dream job threatens to separate him from those he loves most. It felt real to us," he added.

Adler noted the last two episodes were "never designed as a series finale." So would there be a chance for Life in Pieces Season 5?
