Avid followers of the A Song of Ice and Fire remained skeptic about the possibility of George R.R. Martin finishing The Winds of Winter very soon. The sixth installment of the famous epic-fantasy book series has been delayed over and over again since it was confirmed in 2011. So, when will GRRM finish the highly-anticipated novel?

Shortly after the conclusion of the Game of Thrones television series, George R.R. Martin teased another possible The Winds of Winter release date in his NotABlog blog. The 70-year-old American novelist responded to Air New Zealand's offer to help him finish the sixth volume of the A Song of Ice and Fire book series. In his post, GRRM revealed his plans to visit the said country for a major convention.

"As it happens, I already have plans to return," George R.R. Martin wrote. "In the summer of 2020, Wellington is hosting the World Science Fiction Convention, the oldest and most important con in the SF/ fantasy calendar, and they've asked me to serve as Toastmaster for the Hugo Awards," the veteran author added. GRRM, later, revealed that he could, finally, publish The Winds of Winter book before or during the event.

"But I tell you this - if I don't have THE WINDS OF WINTER in hand when I arrive in New Zealand for worldcon, you have here my formal written permission to imprison me in a small cabin on White Island, overlooking that lake of sulfuric acid, until I'm done," George R.R. Martin said in his post. "Just so long as the acrid fumes do not screw up my old DOS word processor, I'll be fine," he furthered.

Because of this, some fans speculated that George R.R. Martin could finally finish The Winds of Winter in early 2020 since it still needs to be checked by his editors before publication. While this prediction could come into reality, it should be noted that GRRM has yet to confirm the official release date of the upcoming sixth A Song of Ice and Fire book. Hence, this forecast should be taken with a grain of salt.

Meanwhile, George R.R. Martin got a message from one of his avid followers. A Redditor, who is using the handle Mito20, advised the brain behind the Game of Thrones series on how to keep his followers interested with The Winds of Winter. The user claimed that GRRM has to keep on "foreshadowing events in the most subtle ways" after the GOT finale spoiled some of the major points of the story.

Earlier in June, George R.R. Martin was given a huge honor in New Jersey by getting inducted into the Hall of Fame. He will join the star-studded list, which includes Southside Johnny, The Smithereens, Martha Stewart, and Jason Alexander. He is set to come to the United Kingdom to attend a special event sometime in August. Stay tuned to Business Times for the latest The Winds of Winter news and updates!
