An Into the Badlands movie spinoff was apparently being hatched on AMC. Amid talks of the show's cancellation in late 2018, creators Al Gough and Miles Millar pitched their movie idea to the network bosses to properly close the martial arts saga.

Gough and Millar were apparently inspired to come up with the Into the Badlands movie spinoff after being told about the show's cancellation. They were working on Into the Badlands season 3 when AMC announced that the show will end after three seasons. Thus, the creators decided to pitch a movie spinoff, which would have been like a Kung-Fu Western production.

"The spinoff would have jumped probably 20 years into the future, and it would have been following The Widow (played by Emily Beecham), Gaius's daughter and Henry (played by Vaughn Endraca) as young people," Gough revealed via Indiewire. "And Bajie (played by Nick Frost) would have still been around acting as sort of the mentor character."

Further, the character of Bajie would be like the town sheriff or mayor in this Into the Badlands movie spinoff. And the biggest threat to this new world would be the weapons that people have acquired.

Gough and Millar said that AMC was interested in developing the Into the Badlands movie spinoff in the beginning. However, the network ultimately decided that the show is done so any plans for the spinoff was essentially shelved.

Following the announcement of the cancellation, fans have launched a petition to save Into The Badlands more than five months agoThere have been over 10,000 signatures of support so far, and the petition is still ongoing.

However, AMC has been firm in its decision to cancel the series, and so far, no other network or platform has expressed interest in acquiring the show. Even Netflix, which has the first three seasons in its library in some territories, has not stated an interest to develop Into the Badlands season 4 or the movie spinoff.

Into the Badlands premiered on AMC in November 2015. Set in a post-apocalyptic world where guns have been shunned, people have relied on martial arts and ancient weapons like crossbows and melee to defend themselves during clan wars.

The series follows warrior's journey across the dangerous feudal landscape of the Badlands, where several characters have attempted to rule or dominate. In the end, some of the warriors came together to defeat a common enemy in Pilgrim (played by). In the process, however, the hero Sunny (played by Daniel Wu) also dies and meets his Master in the after-life.
