Prince Harry's marriage to American actress Meghan Markle was an unprecedented event in the history of the royals, but now, the powerhouse couple is hoping to start another royal legacy with their baby Archie Harrison. However, this project, still in its early stages, could prove to be a costly undertaking.
Prince Harry and his wife Meghan Markle, who hold the title of Duke and Duchess of Sussex have reportedly been eyeing Africa as their temporary home for four months every year. According to an article by Page Six, the unconventional couple has the support of the Queen and Prince Charles for their plan to set up a base in the continent and perform their royal duties from there.
However, sources from the Palace have said that there are some concerns over the cost of moving to Africa to create a temporary home for Prince Harry, Meghan and their son Archie. Apart from establishing a home, moving their entire security detail will also entail a huge expense. It is speculated that this major undertaking will set back taxpayers by a couple of million pounds a year.
On the flipside, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's move to either South Africa or Botswana will enable them to touch base and create the most impact for development programs in the region.
"They like the idea of being able to put roots down in a country, have a home base, and get involved and engaged in the community and country. Africa is an obvious starting point for Harry because of his affinity for the continent," a source from the Palace was quoted.
While the move is being eyed for 2021 as planning is still in its early stages, friends of the royals are already expressing excitement over the development. Among them is supermodel Naomi Campbell who said she could not wait for Prince Harry and Meghan Markle to move to Africa with little Archie.
"I'm ecstatic - I think Prince Harry and the Duchess, Meghan Markle, are rewriting history. They have no idea what they're going to do for the African continent, but they're going to love it, they're going to find such peace there. Little Archie's going to love it, she said in an interview.
Naomi Campbell is one of the supermodels who was friends with Princess Diana. The supermodel recalled the late princess' kindness and a great relationship with her honorary "granddad" Nelson Mandela.
According to Campbell, she adored Princess Diana for her down to earth personality and because the royal showed great love for Africa. The Princess worked together with the former South African President in humanitarian projects and programs to uplift the poor when she was still alive.
