The Game of Thrones Prequel may be set thousands of years ago before the original series, but a familiar character may be seen. Melisandre, the Red Priestess who is believed to be over a hundred-years-old, may make her way in the spinoff, although nothing is confirmed yet.
In an interview with Carice Van Houten, who played as the Red Woman since Game of Thrones Season 2, she told Deadline of the possibility seeing young Melisandre in the upcoming prequel. "Who knows?" she said when asked if Melisandre could make her way to one of the show's planned prequel. "I guess you could see a very young Melisandre or something like that."
Although the idea of seeing Melisandre in the Game of Thrones Prequel is undeniably fun, Houten revealed she might not be the one to play the role. No one from HBO has contacted the 42-year-old star yet, so she hasn't received any offer to reprise her iconic character.
Houten admitted there are too many great characters in the world of Game of Thrones, but she would love to see Melisandre's backstory. In the original series, the mysterious character had fulfilled her purpose when she helped the Winterfell battled the White Walkers.
Houten also saw her character's death as "graceful," and she thanked the writers for giving Melisandre's storyline a proper conclusion. Although she admitted "The Long Night" seemed "bombastic," her role's demise was like the "final note of a symphony."
Melisandre is one of the most mysterious characters in Game of Thrones. Fans had the chance to see her true image when she removed her necklace, which presumed to make her look young, in Season 6.
Although her age was never revealed, she was believed to be over hundred-years-old. Hence, she could have been alive in the Age of Heroes, hinting a chance to see her character in the Game of Thrones Prequel.
Meanwhile, Elite Daily noted there are a lot of questions surrounding the original series, from Bran's (Isaac Hempstead Wright) ability to the Faith of the Seven to Jon Snow's (Kit Harington) birthright. As the prequel is going to be set before these things happened, fans might not get the answers to these mysteries.
But as HBO is reportedly working on several spinoffs, will there still be a chance to explore these storylines? From the looks of it, fans should wait for the network's further announcement about the other shows' plotlines. Currently, the Game of Thrones Prequel is in the works with a working title Bloodmoon, which may be out in 2021.
