If you've got the money and the urge to migrate to the best country on Earth for you and your family to live and work in, the only logical choice for you is Switzerland.

For the first time, this landlocked European country with a population of only 8.4 million has been ranked the best place in the world to live and work by HSBC's "Best places to live and work" annual survey.

It placed eighth in 2018 and rocketed all the way to Number One on the strength of its high standard of living and its praiseworthy economic and political climate. Not to mention Switzerland has historically been one of the richest countries on this planet and one of the world's most developed countries.

Switzerland has the world's highest nominal wealth per adult and has the eighth-highest per capita gross domestic product. Its GDP in 2017 stood at $547.9 billion while its GNI per capita was a huge $65,610.

High living standards and competitive salaries have also made Switzerland (or the Swiss Confederation to use its official name) a regular fixture among the world's most livable cities.

Switzerland jumped from 8th place in 2018 after the vast majority of people that had relocated there from overseas said they were happy with its economic (80 percent) and political (86 percent) climate.

A huge 82 percent of people who moved to Switzerland for work also said they enjoyed an improved standard of living compared to their home country.

Seven in 10 (71 percent) of those who have moved to Switzerland now enjoy higher levels of disposable income. Their average salary stands at $111,587 or well above the global average of $75,966 across the 33 nations surveyed by HSBC in their annual expat country ranking.

Meanwhile, 70 percent of expats to Switzerland said their surroundings were cleaner and 42 percent felt physically healthier.

"The research confirms what we hear from clients, many of whom move to Switzerland for its high quality of life, good business prospects, and economic and political stability," said Jean-Francois Bunlon, market head for HSBC Private Banking in Switzerland.

The 12th edition of HSBC's annual "Best places to live and work for 2019 was based on responses from more than 18,000 expats across 163 markets.

It marks the first time in five years Singapore wasn't ranked first place. Singapore is now in second place

Third to 10th places on the list are occupied by Canada, Spain, New Zealand, Australia, Turkey, Germany, United Arab Emirates, and Vietnam.

The United Kingdom fell seven places to 27th on account of the lingering anxieties caused by Brexit.
