Stranger Things season 3 recently hit Netflix, which was on July 4th, but fans of the '80s-inspired sci-fi show still want more. While nothing is confirmed right now, the series has left some unanswered questions, leaving the door open for Stranger Things season 4.
Right now, it remains uncertain if Stranger Things will be renewed for a fourth season or not. But, cast and crew members have been hinting the show will have at least five seasons. Thus, the possibility of the fourth installment is very likely.
In April 2018, producer and director, Shawn Levy told Collider that Stranger Things season 4 is "definitely happening." He said there's a very much possibility of the series going for more than four seasons, but that matter was currently undecided.
Show creators Matt and Ross Duffer (Duffer Brothers) have basically confirmed season 4 as well, Ross told Vulture in 2017 they're thinking the show will have four seasons. In February 2018, however, there were rumors claiming the Duffer Brothers would no longer be involved in the series when season 3 ends, but Netflix shut down the speculations.

Since its renewal status remains unclear, the release date of Stranger Things season 4 remains unclear as well. But it can be recalled that the first and third season premiered in July, while the second one was released in October. Thus, it's very likely the series would be back on either month, depending on the production.
As for who's coming back in the potential season 4, it is possible all of the alive main characters are returning. Additionally, some of the new characters will likely be part of the fourth installment as well. For instance, Cary Elwes plays the role of mayor of Hawkins, while Jake Busey is a sketchy reporter. What's also exciting is that Priah Ferguson (Lucas' little sister, Erica) was added as a series regular.
Meanwhile, if you've watched the entire season finale, there's an extra mid-credits scene which sets up the next season. It seems like the Russians are up to no good even though the Starcourt Mall has been gone. One of their prisoners was also eaten by the new Demogorgon they've created.
They also mentioned they locked up an American prisoner, which hints that Hopper might still be alive. Therefore, the fight for Hawkins is not yet over and the group will probably reunite in Stranger Things season 4 to get the Russians, as well as their crazy experiments out of town for good.
