Just like other married couples, Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip have blazing rows sometimes. But despite their fights, an unearthed report reveals that Her Majesty has a technique to defuse their heated arguments and to calm down her husband.
Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip were married for 72 years. The monarch was just 21-year-old when she married Lieutenant Philip Mountbatten on November 20, 1947, at the Westminster Abbey. The two shared four children, eight grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren.
And even though they started living apart, their relationship has reportedly longest of any British sovereign. The Duke of Edinburgh has been at Her Majesty's side throughout the past years, supporting her while she devotes herself to her royal duties. In fact, the monarch once described her husband as her "constant strength" and "guide."
But, an unearthed report by the Daily Mirror in 2007 revealed that the marriage of the royal couple hasn't always been soon and they have seen a lot of heated arguments as well. According to royal correspondent James Whitaker, Her Majesty and the Duke of Edinburgh still have "blazing rows." During their fights, there were reportedly cries of "Rubbish," and "You don't know what you're talking about."
But then, Queen Elizabeth reportedly has a clever trick to defuse their heated arguments, as well as to calm down her husband. Whitaker shared the technique of the monarch is to talk in riddles to confuse the logical mind of Prince Philip.
And while the Duke of Edinburgh is known for his humor and inappropriate jokes, a royal biographer claimed Her Majesty has had a fair share of fun over the years as well. For instance, her husband was known to grow his beard when traveling, and when he returned from a trip back in 1957, the monarch reportedly prepared a funny prank for him.
In his book Queen of the World, royal expert and author Robert Hardman revealed Queen Elizabeth made fun of Prince Philip's hirsute look. He wrote that it was a comedy moment at that time, Her Majesty reportedly arranged everyone in the royal entourage, including herself, and they put on fake whiskers before the Duke of Edinburgh walked in.
Meanwhile, Nigel Cawthorne revealed in his 2015 book - The Royals and the Rest of Us as Seen By Prince Philip - the relationship of Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip is based on their mutual love and respect. But aside from that, they reportedly grew stronger because of their shared sense of humor.
