Jeremy Lin is one of the notable free agents this summer with no team coming forward to express interest in the 30-year-old guard. Linsanity is coming off a successful NBA campaign with the Toronto Raptors. It was the first title for the franchise and Lin also made record books when he became the first Asian-American to win an NBA title.
It should be noted though that Lin hardly played in the last NBA Finals. Taken in likely as insurance, the 30-year-old cager was expected to come off the bench to give stars like Kyle Lowry and Fred VanVleet a breathing spell. Compared to previous teams he played for, Linsanity hardly got attention until the Raptors defeated the Golden State Warriors for the 2018-19 NBA title. Now, however, Lin's contract is done and he is now awaiting his next move.
There is no doubt that Lin can still keep in step with current NBA guards if given the opportunity. According to Fansided, one team that could make sense would be a former team - the Charlotte Hornets. With Kemba Walker and Jeremy Lamb departing, the Hornets have Terry Rozier and a couple of upstarts in Miles Bridges and Dwayne Bacon. Lin has been in the league long enough to help the wards of head coach James Borrego.
It was during the 2015-16 NBA season when Lin last played for the Hornets. The coach back then was Steve Clifford. Seen more as a time for him to prove he is worth big money, Lin successfully showed his true potential. He would sign with the Brooklyn Nets after that but his rise fell short yet again because of multiple injuries. Now, he has the opportunity to rise again with the same team that helped him recall his old form.
The only thing different right now is that Lin will need to adjust to the system of Borrego. According to the Charlotte Observer, the Hornets head coach wants a fast-paced brand of basketball. Known to play the open court well, Lin seems to be tailor-made for it. Also, he brings in more than playing good open court basketball. Linsanity has been known to take it strong to the basket and hit it from outside. Looking at it at different angles, Lin could be a gem of an addition to the Hornets if they run out of options to beef up their backcourt. If not, other teams could express interest in Lin and add him as another guard who can come off the bench and energize the second unit.
