For UK fans, it has been five months already since Grantchester Season 4 ended. And it is only recently that ITV and PBS confirmed the Kudos show's renewal for a new season.
Just before the fourth season's arrival on the American television for the US fans, Kudos has officially released a statement concerning the show's renewal. And according to Deadline, the executive producer, Emma Kingsman-Lloyd, shared in an interview that they are very excited over at Kudos that Grantchester is set to return for a new season.
In addition, she also extended her gratitude and appreciation to the fans as they are all delighted to continue the story of Geordie and Will. And while James Norton is confirmed to exit the show after the current season, Will's arrival is expected to fill in his place.
Aside from the renewal confirmation, it has been also revealed that the shooting will start this summer in Cambridgeshire, UK. And once the preparation commences, further details about the new cast member additions will also be uncovered to the fans of the show.
In terms of the plot, Grantchester Season 5 will naturally pick up where the last season has ended. And based on the course, it will continue the plot in Cambridge in 1957. This is actually a year after when the Prime Minister, Harold MacMillan, reported publicly that everything is going well and will further be well for the British community.
Of course, the citizens of Grantchester largely believe that they are all safe now. But Geordie and Will know that "trouble" and danger is always present as per Cartermatt. And quite obviously, much newer cases of troubles and afflictions in their "home" will primarily prevail at the start of Season 5.
The upcoming season of the series will probably premiere next year. But as to which month it would arrive, there are no further details given yet. Besides, this is just mere speculation made by the fandom.
It is also worth noting that the premiere dates of every season fall in different months. Hence, it is quite difficult to make assumptions. But as far as the fans are concerned, Grantchester Season 5 will arrive in between 2020 and 2021.
So far, these are the only details that can be gathered about the show's movements. But certainly, there will be more new updates when the filming and shooting starts.
Grantchester Season 4 is set to premiere on July 14, on PBS.
