The ranch of John Dutton (played by Kevin Costner) seems like a cattle graveyard in Yellowstone season 2 episode 4. And he's raring to exact his revenge on whoever shot his livelihood.

The upcoming episode, which will air on Wednesday, July 17, is titled "Only Devils Left." The episode synopsis underscores that John will suffer a direct hit on Yellowstone.

In an exclusive clip for Yellowstone season 2 episode 4, John convinces the sheriff to take drastic actions in dealing with the killing of his cattle. He makes a case for some of the men to be deputized so that they can carry guns when apprehending the culprit.

One of these men is Kayce Dutton (played by Luke Grimes), who isn't exactly quite allied with his father. But John is desperate and has started shaking things up at the range in last week's episode.

He's now relying on Kayce to find whoever killed the family's cattle, and if necessary, drag this person by the hair to the ranch. In doing so, however, Rip Dutton (played by Cole Hauser) has been essentially demoted in the family business.

"There's a bigger goal, and you'll see as the show progresses," Hauser said of John's actions and decisions of late, per Cinema Blend"Rip is smart enough to know that. This is just one sacrifice, but the endgame is different. It's gonna prove to John that not only do you need me, but I might be the best guy for the job."

Meanwhile, Yellowstone season 2 episode 4 is a chance for Kayce to find where he fits with his father baring down on him about the ranch's legacy and obligations. Meanwhile, the wife he's trying to win back made it clear to Kayce that she doesn't want them to be close to John so this could be another potential problem for the character now that he's been put in charge.

Yellowstone season 2 episode 4 will also feature Cassidy Reid (played by Kelly Rohrbach), the Dutton ally, signing on as the attorney general. However, this leaves Jamie Dutton (played by Wes Bentley) quite annoyed as he was hoping to get that job with his father's recommendation. Except the patriarch discouraged him from pursuing his ambition.

The teaser shows Jamie seriously upset and festering with resentment for the whole situation. But there are also some issues settled and mended between the family members but how long will Jamie keep his peace?
