Syfy has confirmed that Wynonna Earp season 4 is coming back on the air. The network, however, has not yet announced its actual release date but it's speculated to be ready for a summer 2020 unveiling.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, funding problems of its production studio IDW Entertainment affected Wynonna Earp season 4's return. But now that this has been ironed out and settled, the show will finally begin production this month.
To prove that the show is back on track, some of the cast members of Wynonna Earp season 4 and its showrunner, Emily Andras, attended the Sand Diego Comic-Con panel over the weekend to fill in fans on what's coming next. Stars Melanie Scrofano (as Wynonna Earp), Chantel Riley (as Kate), Katherine Barrell (as Nicole) and Greg Lawson (as Sheriff Nedley), as well as comic book author Beau Smith also didn't miss the opportunity to thank the fans for their support for Wynonna Earp season 4.
Scrofano said that the upcoming season would find Wynonna leaning on to Sheriff Nedley. Without Doc Holliday (played by Tim Rozon) and Waverly Earp (played by Dominique Provost-Chalkley), the two will have to rely on each other for support.
"I had a moment where [I said to] Greg over there, 'It's just the two of us,'" Scrofano revealed, per TV Insider."I think it'll be interesting to see how she, maybe, leans on him a little bit more or maybe he'll lean on her? We talked early on about how Waverly is very much like, 'Let's figure this out, team!' It'll be interesting to see if Wynonna can step up now."
Lawson, on the other hand, jokes that he might need to start working out now that he's set to team up with Wynonna. The actor also said that he'd be happy to follow orders from the showrunner, whatever Andras might want him to do.
The Wynonna Earp season 4 Comic-Con panel also featured a video reel of the blooper trailer. Andras said that the upcoming story will be the "Earp-iest" ever, drawing delightful reactions from the fans.
Meanwhile, Smith reveals that it's up to Andras to bring in the character of Valdez in Wynonna Earp season 4. In his comic books, Valdez is like warrior princess that's over 1,000 years old, and the comic book creator said he fully trusts the showrunner's ability to bring to life the character on screen, should that happen.
