Avid followers of the popular British crime drama television series continue to wonder whether or not Sherlock Season 5 is still happening. BBC has not yet announced or confirmed the show's supposed fifth installment. Despite this, the series creators and cast are very much positive that Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's Sherlock Holmes detective stories would continue.

Co-creators Steven Moffat and Mark Gatiss have, repeatedly, expressed their interested in coming back for another run. As a matter of fact, in an interview with Radio Times, Steven said that "nobody" has ever closed the door on Sherlock. Though he highlighted that there are no concrete plans for Sherlock Season 5 as of yet, Steven said he is confident that he would be able to work with Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman again soon.

As a matter of fact, in 2014, Steven Moffat confirmed that he and Mark Gatiss had, already, plotted the series' fourth and fifth installment at the time - in other words, Sherlock Season 5 could be just around the corner. Rather excitingly, Mark (Gatiss) and I, for no particular reason, just started plotting out what we could do in the future," the Scottish television writer-producer made the announcement at a Bafta screening of a Season 3 episode. "We plotted out the whole of series four and five. The ideas we had that day, I thought were the best we've ever had," he added.

Though there is no doubt that there is a big chance for Sherlock Season 5 to happen in the future, Steven Moffat, in a separate interview, revealed that he and Mark Gattis has been doing other projects as well. Because of this, they have not talked and discussed the yet-to-be-confirmed fifth installment as of yet.

The owner of Speedy's café, previously, claimed that Sherlock Season 5 could air earlier than expected after he, allegedly, heard some crew and staff talking about it there. "I probably shouldn't be saying this, but I've heard they'll be coming back for a fifth season," Chris Georgiou told Time Out.

Though Mark debunked the claim already, fans are expecting that BBC could confirm the coming of Sherlock Season 5 very soon especially now that the series' co-creators have, reportedly, more time to talk about the yet-to-be-confirmed project. Steven Moffat is not working on Doctor Who, at the moment, and Doctor Strange, who is portrayed by Benedict Cumberbatch, is dead in the Marvel Cinematic Universe already.

Though these speculations could be true, it should be noted that BBC has not yet confirmed anything as of yet. Hence, avid followers of the series should take these reports lightly until everything is proven true and correct.
