The Nissan Juke was not exactly a big hit in the United States. The funky-designed compact crossover which sports curvy lines was not able to find a niche in the highly competitive market. While the original Juke is still on sale in parts of Europe, Nissan totally pulled the plug in the United States. Close to a decade after its original debut, Nissan is poised to release second-generation Juke, and the Japanese carmaker is slated to reveal the new Juke on September 3.
Just like the original, the new iteration of the Juke is expected to feature the same funky and novel design approach which made its famous - or in some cases infamous. The new model is expected to sport a new split-headlight design. It will also feature a new slim daytime running lights and rounded headlight design.
Nissan released a teaser photo of the next-generation Juke. Unfortunately, it is just a façade that teases the crossover's front design. Based on the released photo, the new Juke will retain that same curvy design concept. What caught the attention of many analysts is its headlight design.
It has been confirmed on several occasions that the Juke will be built on the same platform used to build the Renault Clio, as well as the next-generation Captur. Nissan has yet to confirm this, but many in the auto community believe that the new Juke is available in a plug-in hybrid version. The car's engine is believed to be a 1.6-liter four-cylinder gasoline engine partnered with an electric motor with a 9.8kWh battery pack.
Judging by this setup, the next-generation Nissan Juke should easily reach up to 20 miles on electric power alone. The electric motor should also give the Juke a nice push when accelerating, as well as a little bit of juice when reaching its top speed.
Speculations claim that the new Juke will be bigger compared to the current model. This means that it will have a bigger rear passenger knee and headroom. Fans are applauding this design change, as the original Juke was criticized for this very reason.
Although the teaser images did not reveal much, a number of spy shots of the compact crossover have indicated that the new model will sport the same trunk design as the old model. Nissan only made a couple of changes in terms of rear fender design.
The new-generation Nissan Juke is expected to be revealed on September 3. Nissan is also expected to make additional reveals as to the specifications of the car during the event.
