The upcoming Black Widow solo movie starring Scarlett Johansson is going to feature Hawkeye, played by Jeremy Renner. The duo's long history will be briefly touched in this MCU film.

Sources told We Got This Covered, that Renner will appear as Hawkeye/Clint Barton in Black Widow, albeit in a short scene. The role will be quite small, but it will be significant to the movie, which has been filming in Hungary.

The Black Widow solo outing won't bring back Johansson's assassin character from the dead though. As fans who have seen Avengers: Endgame learned, Black Widow/Natasha Romanoff plunged to her death and sacrificed herself to save the world in that final phase 3 movie on the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU).

Black Widow will take Natasha back in time in the 1990s when she stops becoming a Russian spy and deflects to the S.H.I.E.L.D. Thus, this will conveniently have her character meet Hawkeye, but the rest of the Avengers won't be in the movie.

So, this upcoming film will be a prequel, which will be launched as the first film in the MCU's Phase 4. The studio has confirmed that Black Widow will be in theaters on May 2020.

For her part, Johansson was pretty much tight-lipped when asked about Hawkeye's participation in the Black Widow solo film. The actress tried to dodge the questions and only told the audience at the Comic-Con that her lips are sealed, per Cinema Blend

At the Comic-Con, some footage of the Black Widow solo movie showed some a few scenes between Johansson and Florence Pugh (as the Russian spy Yelena Belova). There was also motorbike chase between the women, who called each other "sisters."

Another footage also hinted that Taskmaster might be the villain in Black Widow. However, Marvel has not confirmed if this true as the actor playing the character has also not yet been revealed.

What is clear, however, is that Stranger Things actor David Harbour has been cast to play Alexei Shostakov/The Guardian in Black Widow. It's unclear if his character will be an ally or an enemy as the comic versions were ambiguous. Also joining the cast of this solo outing are O.T. Fagbenle as Mason, Rachel Weisz as Melina, and Ray Winstone in an undisclosed role.

Black Widow will be directed by Cate Shortland.
