The trailer and poster for Steven Universe: The Movie, which Cartoon Network unveiled at the recent Comic-Con, have hinted on a few notable changes to this cartoon world. After all, two years have passed since the last series aired.
For starters, Steven looks a bit differently drawn in the movie version. Actor Sack Callison did confirm that the character has a noticeable neck now that he's about 16 years old, per Polygon.
The teaser also hints of a new villain that has remained nameless. Her presence, however, indicates energy that seems to be exactly what the new story needs.
The movie has also laid out what has been long speculated while the show was off the air. Steven has plans of "retiring" as he embarks on greater responsibilities now that he is growing up. But what will happen to Steven Universe season 6 by then?
A fan analysis video alleging a Steven Universe season 6 opening leak states that the original crystal gems might be retiring in the upcoming season as well. The follow-up will likely bring up Steven's progressing relationships with the more recent crystal gems since he's also changing.
There are speculations that everything about this change will be explained in the movie, which will lay down what season 6 and beyond should be about moving forward. It bears noting, however, that the video being analyzed is from a behind-the-scenes feature for Steven Universe: The Movie and it might not be a leak of the season 6 opening.
