BLACKPINK may well be on its way to becoming the first Kpop group to reach 1 billion views as DDU DU DDU DU MV reached 900 million views in the fastest time.
According to a report by Soompi, BLACKPINK's DDU DU DDU DU reached the 900 million view milestone last July 30 at 9:33 pm, which is only one year, one month, 15 days away from its release on June 15, 2018.
Not only is DDU DU DDU DU BLACKPINK's highest viewed MV, but it is also the only video by a Kpop group to reach the number. The only other Korean to surpass the mark is PSY's phenomenal global hit Gangnam Style, which now has 3.3 billion views since its release 7 years ago.
In just one day since reaching the 900 million mark, the number of hits for DDU DDU DDU DU has already increased by 994,000 times, which means that BLINKS are not slowing down in streaming the video to break another record for their beloved BLACKPINK.
Meanwhile, BLACKPINK's the DDU DU DDU DU is not their only MV that is making youtube records. Their Whistle MV has also broken the 400 million mark on July 26, making it the sixth BLACKPINK MV to reach the 400 million views on the streaming platform, reports indicate. Current views are now at 402 million in the space of four days.
Over the weekend, BLACKPINK's Jennie made history as the first female Kpop solo artist to reach 350 million views for her Solo MV. She was also the first female Kpop solo act to break the 300 million views mark on youtube, reported BT.
Adding icing to the cake that Jennie made this happen in just eight months and 17 days since the single's release on November 12, 2018. Solo was also Jennie's first attempt to perform as a solo act.
Fans who are unfamiliar with Kpop idol groups should not be alarmed with BLACKPINK members' solo activities since entertainment agencies in Korea like YG Entertainment encourage solo and sub unit activities for Kpop idols to diversify their experience and bank on their strengths as artists.
