Actor Johnny Depp will not be back as Captain Jack Sparrow in the upcoming Pirates of the Caribbean 6, but avid fans previously launched a petition to bring back the actor and reprise his role. So the question now; is there a chance for the actor to return?
Depp has been ousted from his role after multiple allegations of domestic violence thrown against him by his ex-wife, actress Amber Heard. But despite the allegations, the actor's fans launched a petition to bring him back in the Pirates of the Caribbean 6.
The screenwriter of the film, Stuart Beattie, has already hinted last year that Depp would no longer be a part of the franchise, but he didn't reveal the reason as to why the actor has been dismissed. Fans, however, gone mad with this decision and weren't happy with the idea of seeing the movie without Depp.
So, they launched several petitions to bring back the actor on board, and one of which garnered over 13,000 signatures. Fans believe the franchise wouldn't be the same without Depp, and it wouldn't be successful if not for him.
Another petition had more than 5,000 signatures and presented a statement why the actor should reprise his role in Pirates of the Caribbean 6. The statement noted the actor has gone through a lot over the past few years and in a very public way.
It added that his divorce with Heard brought up multiple allegations of domestic violence against him and the actor is just one of many actors who have been "demonized" by the entertainment industry. But while these petitions garnered more signatures, it looks like Disney remains silent regarding the issue.
The messy divorce of Depp and Heard tainted the actor's image in the eyes of the public. And just last year, the actor also dealt with a multimillion-dollar lawsuit against his former business managers - the Management Group - as he accused them of fraud and financial management.
Since Depp's image was linked to several allegations, executives at Disney are probably terrified of casting him, and his presence in the movie could frighten some conservative viewers. Also, removing the actor in Pirates of the Caribbean 6 would reportedly save Disney a whopping $100 million - which is said to be the actor's salary every movie of the Pirates franchise.
Meanwhile, there's no trailer or synopsis regarding Pirates of the Caribbean 6, and Disney might also find another actor that has the same charisma as Depp.
