A lot of fans have been waiting for the official premiere of Homeland Season 8. Unlike other impending series, details of the popular American spy thriller television show's new installment have been revealed already. So, what is likely to transpire in the last and final outing of Carrie Mathison?

Obviously, Claire Danes is confirmed to make a return in Howard Gordon and Alex Gansa's famous series, which was based on the Prisoners of War. Earlier this year, Showtime president Gary Levine revealed that the premiere date of Homeland Season 8 was moved in the fall. Though the final installment was originally scheduled to air in June, the production demands forced the network to back off its plans to launch the final installment in summer 2019.

Previous reports divulged that Homeland Season 8 would have a total of 12 episodes. Most scenes are said to be filmed in Morroco, which would be the fictional backdrop of Afghanistan for the series' last installment. "Having read the first few scripts, I can tell you, it's a breathless, surprising and moving ride to its conclusion," Gary revealed at the Television Critics Association press tour in January. At the time, the network exec even stated that production for the eighth season would kick off the next month.

Aside from Claire Danes, other cast members expected to make a return include Many Patinkin, who portrays the role of Saul Berenson. Other personalities set to appear in Homeland Season 8 also include Hugh Dancy (John Zabel), Sam Trammell (Benjamin Hayes), Elizabeth Marvel (Elizabeth Keane), Jake Weber (Brett O'Keefe), Linus Roache (David Wellington), Maury Sterling (Mac Piotrowski), and F Murray Abraham (Dar Adal) among others.

As for its storyline, spoilers have it that Homeland Season 8 would center on the life of Carrie Mathison after her brutal confinement in a Russian labor camp. Though the body of Claire Danes' character continues to recuperate, her mind would remain cracked in the show's final installment. This, according to reports, would be a problem for Saul, especially now that he was assigned as the National Security Advisor of President Warner.

"The top priority of Warner's nascent administration is ending the "forever war" in Afghanistan, and Saul has been dispatched to engage the Taliban in peace negotiations," the official Homeland Season 8 synopsis read. "But Kabul teems with warlords and mercenaries, zealots and spies - and Saul needs the relationships and expertise that only his protégé, Carrie, can provide. Against medical advice, Saul asks Carrie to walk with him into the lion's den... one last time."

The final installment of the Showtime series is expected to arrive in September or October 2019. Stay tuned to Business Times for more Homeland Season 8 spoilers, theories, predictions, news, and updates!
