Read at your own risk: This article contains major spoilers for Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Season 6.
As any fan knows it, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Season 7 will serve as the final run of the series. And according to reports, the new season is already in the process of works. But as to how it will proceed next run, little has been shared about the show's plot. Even so, the surprising finale still gave a few hints and ideas on how the final season will play out.
The finale of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Season 6 left the fans in shock as Clark Gregg's Sarge was killed in the middle of the finale episode. While Sarge is expected to die considering his advocacies upon the character's arrival, many actually thought that the series will end with Clark Gregg sticking to Sarge's character.
However, this is not the thing that truly surprised the viewers. As it happened, the final moments of the episode showed that Phil Coulson might be back for good.
In Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Season 5 finale, Phil Coulson was killed as a nod to the plot of The Avengers. While this has become a saddening moment for every Marvel fan, the fans did not expect Clark Gregg's immediate return the following season as Sarge.
According to Screen Rant, the recent season has revealed that Sarge is actually Coulson. He is created by the monoliths and possessed by a demon. Many had hoped that killing Sarge would bring Coulson back. And while this is pretty plausible, a monolith creation is a huge factor to be considered since it only means that he is not human after all.
So when he was killed, along with Izel, which put the risks on Earth to stop, no Phil Coulson has come back to life. And this has caused a commotion among the fans since the hopes of having Clark Gregg in the new and final season are disappearing.
But things have changed when the pre-credit scene entered the picture. As it happened, Mack and Daisy "activated" the Chronicum Hardware and continued to bring the "life model decoy" of Coulson into life.
Upon the activation, the seemingly original Phil Coulson appeared and greeted everyone with his well-known tone of voice saying - "Hey, guys!" and not long after, the final credits appeared.
This surprised a lot of people since, according to reports, they never thought of this kind of plot. As a result, the fandom is now so much more excited for Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Season 7. Many take it as a very fitting course of plot considering that the show is about to end. And bringing back its main character in the spot is just suitable.
