Production is, already, in full swing for A Million Little Things season 2 on ABC. The show is scheduled to premiere its first few episodes beginning Thursday, Sept. 26, at 9:00 p.m.
The successful drama series, which is about friendships and relationships, had also been given an expanded episode count in the upcoming season. From 17 episodes in its debut year, A Million Little Things season 2 is going to be 19 episodes long.
"We flip cards - that's how we're built. I don't want to flip cards so much that it feels inauthentic," creator DJ Nash told TV Line of the additional episode order. "So that's why I said, 'I got to do 18.' And [the network] said, 'How about 19?' And I said, 'OK.'"
A Million Little Things season 2 will bring back everyone from the first season, including Ron Livingston (as Jon Dixon) whose character died in the pilot episode. Though some issues about Jon's death have been resolved during the first season finale, there's still a lot of stories to tell from these characters --- Eddie Saville (played by David Giuntoli), Rome Howard (played by Romany Malco), Maggie Bloom (played by Allison Miller), Regina Howard (played by Christina Moses), Katherine Kim (played by Grace Park), Gary Mendez (played by James Roday), and Delilah Dixon (played by Stephanie Szostak).
The incoming season will introduce a new mystery that will once again test friendship and relationship, and it will have no connection to Jon's death in season 1. Though the writers are coy, they hint that Eddie's marriage to Katherine might not be over just yet. They signed the divorce papers, which Katherine never filed. However, it is worth noting that they also shared a kiss in the first season finale.
Nash told Deadline that A Million Little Things season 2 would pick up from this scene between Eddie and Katherine. They were able to film parts of the first episode of the new season after working on the season 1 finale.
The showrunner also told Entertainment Weekly that Rome and Regina's storyline would go through a major change in A Million Little Things season 2 as their baby plans differ. Maggie and Gary, on the other hand, will deal with new aspects of their relationship now that she's in remission from cancer.
A Million Little Things season 2 returns on ABC this September.
